Meet our staff
Greg
Kirkwood was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He joined
the Air Force right out of high school and his first duty
station was Glasgow Air Force Base in Glasgow, Montana. He met
Jan in April of 1966 and they were married on April 16, 1967 in
Wolf Point. After he was discharged in 1969, they moved to
Wichita, Kansas where he worked a number of different jobs and
attended Friends University and Wichita State University. They
moved to Oklahoma so he could attend Central State University in
Edmond for his Mortuary Science Degree. Greg was licensed in
Oklahoma as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1976. He worked
in Hominy, Oklahoma and then move to Wolf Point, Montana. In
1980 they moved to Three Forks and then to Glenwood Springs in
1983. They moved to Malta in 1994.
Greg has always been active in the different places they have lived and Malta was no different. He is Past Master of the Malta Masonic Lodge as well as past Treasure and past Secretary. He is the Charter President of the Phillips County Motor Sports (Hi-Line Drag Strip). Greg has always been involved with his church and has ran a number of grief support groups. He is also a JCI Senator and was in the top three Out Standing Young Men in 1981. Greg sets on the Board of Director for the Montana Coroners Association.
Janice
M. Kirkwood was born in Wolf Point, Montana. She was raised
on a small farm 21 miles north of town and went to a one room
school. After she graduated from Wolf Point High School she
attended and graduated from Miles City School of Cosmetology and
when to work in Glasgow as a Beautician. It was there she met
Greg in 1966. They were married on April 16, 1967 in Wolf Point.
They have lived in Montana, Guam, Kansas, Oklahoma, back to
Montana, Colorado and then to Malta in 1994. Jan has been an
active part of Greg’s career, supporting him through college and
helping in the different funeral homes (cleaning and doing the
ladies hair) that he has worked for. She has been active in the
church ladies groups, Jayceen’s, the kids’ schools, and many
different jobs through out the years.
Duane
Simanton Sr. is a funeral attendant and a life long resident
of Malta. He used to run the Malta Mercantile and had the Malta
Maytag Store for many years. Duane worked part time for Garry
Adams for a number of years before Greg came. After Greg’s
accident in 2006 he came back to help Garry while Greg was
recovering. After Greg purchased the funeral home he informed
Duane that he could keep on working for as long as he wanted.
Duane helps with the register book, transporting and setting up
flowers, and other duties as needed.
Garren
R. Kirkwood was born in Colorado in 1984. He graduated from
Malta High School in 2002 and went to Kansas to attended
McPherson College for an Associates Degree in Antique Auto
Restoration. He moved back to Montana in 2004 and worked as an
auto mechanic at a local shop until 2008. He is now a Crematory
Technician at the Hi-Line Crematory and the yard and auto man
for the funeral home. He has started a sideline business of Auto
Detailing and is doing quite well in the business. He also
removes the snow with the snow plow; Greg thought Garren would
do the shoveling and he would be in the plow, but things change.
Garren also sets monuments and makes cemetery set ups for
funerals.
