Omer Whitaker II, 56, a Navy veteran and retired heavy equipment
operator, died Tuesday, August 30, at the Fort Harrison Medical
Center after a short battle with cancer.Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 7, at the Saco Methodist Church. Military honors will be held at the church. Interment of his cremated remains will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com. Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Tom was born on September 3, 1954 in Malta. He was raised on the Whitaker Family Ranch North of Saco, and graduated from the Saco High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1977. He married Myrna Siewing from Saco in El Cajon, Calif. while serving and they hade two children, they later divorced. Tom worked for 31 years in construction in southern California as a heavy equipment operator, doing blade work. He retired from the Operating Engineer, Local #12 in 2010 and moved back to Saco.
Survivors include his parents Thomas O. and Judy Whitaker of Cypress, Calif.; son, Zachery Thomas Whitaker of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughter Tanya Whitaker Harker of Anaheim, Calif.; grandchildren, Jadelyn & Slade Harker of Anaheim; brothers, Pat Costello of Longview, Washington and Michel Sheehan of San Diego, Calif.; sister Jane Costello of Portland Oregon; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
