Click for larger imageMALTA-Rose M. Pewitt, 71, retried cook, died Sunday, April 3, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center of natural causes.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, at the Kirkwood Funeral home until 5:00 P.M. and continues at her home that night. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, at the Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Malta Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com. Kirkwood Funeral home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.

Rose was born in Sun Prairie, in southern Phillips County on August 31, 1939 the daughter of Earl A. and Pauline F. (Wiederrick) Crowder. She was raised on the family farm south of Malta and graduated from the Malta high School in 1957. She started working as a cook and was married to Lawrence L. Pewitt on September 7, 1958 in Malta. Rose worked as a cook at the nursing home and for the different ranches that Lawrence worked for. She finished her career as a cook for the Westside Café in 1999. Rose always had a cookie jar full of homemade cookies for any one who stopped by. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, puzzles and sewing. Her grandkids were very special to her and loved having them around.

Survivors include her children Connie (Scott Scheffelmear) Pewitt of Malta, Chip (Margaret Cummings) Pewitt of New England, North Dakota; brothers, Allan Crowder, Ervin (Donna) Crowder, William “Bill” (Darl) Crowder all of Malta, Ben Crowder, Earl “Butch” (Carol) Crowder both of Lewistown, Harold (Rosie) Crowder of Helena, Frank (Nancy) Crowder of Conrad, Gary (Linda) Crowder of Billings, Thomas (Sharon) Crowder of Hemingford, Neb.; sisters, Earline (Lloyd) Knudsen, Alice (Ron) Anderson of Malta, sister-in-law, Margaret Sanderford of Malta; grandchildren, Larimie, Cody, Kendall, Tyler, Zac, Jacki, Jessi, Schae, Jaylina, Steven, Jasmine, Brandon and Jonni.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lawrence on May 4, 1989, sister, Peggy Ann and brother, Robert.
