Click for 170 Kb imageSACO- L. Marian Pippin, 100 died Thursday morning February 17th at Hi-Line Retirement Center in Malta following a lengthy illness.

    Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 22 at the Saco Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery at Saco. Memorials may be made to the Saco Methodist Church or the charity of choice. Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.     Marian was the third child born to J. B. and Lena Franklin in St. Thomas, North Dakota on January 28, 1911. The family had purchased a homestead six miles north of Saco and relocated there in 1919. Marian attended grade school at the Huntley School north of Saco for some years. She was valedictorian of the class of 1930 from Saco High School. She graduated from Dillon Normal School with a teaching certificate.

    She taught at the Pippin School south of Saco until she married Clarence H. Pippin in Glasgow, Montana, on August 25, 1934. She taught several years at a country school south of Hinsdale after that. They then ranched south of Saco until 1973 when they retired and moved to town. The Pippin Ranch was honored in 2009 by the Montana Stock growers for having been in the same family for over 100 years.

    She taught at Saco Public School and later at the Beaverton grade school as well. She was a very active lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer for many years. She was one of the piano and the organ players for over 30 years.

    Marian sewed and made crafts until her early 90s. She made many quilts for gifts. She crocheted everything from rugs out of scraps to stuffed animals and dolls.

    She is survived by three children, Janice Alexander, Miles City; Howard (Carol) Pippin of Saco; David (Marie) Pippin of Glasgow, and daughter-in-law Beverly Pippin; two sisters; Ruth (Don) Barnard of Kennewick, WA; and Dorothy Painter of Oakland, CA; ten grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, son Larry, two sisters, one brother, six nieces and nephews and great granddaughter.
