MALTA-Ken R. Mecklenburg, 88, and WWII Navy Veteran and retired
rancher died Wednesday, May 18, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center
of natural causes.Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, May 23 at the Kirkwood Funeral Home with the family receiving friends at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, at the Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Malta Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Ken was born December 30, 1922 in Hancock, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Martha (Willie) Mecklenburg. He moved to Peerless, Montana in 1938 and worked as a ranch hand for different ranches. Ken enlisted in the Navy in November 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area. At the urging of a friend he became a pen pal with Wilma L. Holzhey. Ken was discharged in May of 1946 and married Wilma on December 21, 1946 in Malta. He continued working as a ranch hand until starting their place in Wagner in 1962. They also did custom haying and custom caving for different ranches. Horses were always a big part of his life. It could be said the horses were his hobby and his enjoyment.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Malta; sons Mickey (Glenna) Mecklenburg, Gordon (Mimi) Mecklenburg both of Malta; daughters, JoDee Ann Koss of Malta, Linda (Gary) Loving of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.
