MALTA-Ken R. Mecklenburg, 88, and WWII Navy Veteran and retired
rancher died Wednesday, May 18, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center
of natural causes.Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Monday, May 23 at the Kirkwood Funeral Home with the family receiving friends at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Ken was born December 30, 1922 in Hancock, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Martha (Willie) Mecklenburg. He moved to Peerless, Montana in 1938 and worked as a ranch hand for different ranches. Ken enlisted in the Navy in November 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area. At the urging of a friend he became a pen pal with Wilma L. Holzhey. Ken was discharged in May of 1946 and married Wilma on December 21, 1946 in Malta. He continued working as a ranch hand until starting their place in Wagner in 1962. They also did custom haying and custom caving for different ranches. Horses were always a big part of his life. It could be said the horses were his hobby and his enjoyment.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Malta; sons Mickey (Glenna) Mecklenburg, Gordon (Mimi) Mecklenburg both of Malta; daughters, JoDee Ann Koss of Malta, Linda (Gary) Loving of Tucson, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.
