He was born Oct. 18, 1923, to John and Ida Bruckner at their farm home in the Harb Community. He attended West Harb School and graduated from Malta High School. At age 19, he enlisted in the Navy on the day after the Pearl Harbor attack. He served in the Pacific Front as a master electrician on a Patrol Craft Sweeper, the USS Dutton, until the end of World War II. His ship survived a Kamikaze attack in May of 1945.
Upon his return to Malta, he began a fulfilling career as a farmer and rancher. He first worked for Mr. Byrum in the Harb Community and then purchased the farm from him. He married Elvera Tillman at the Malta Community Church in September of 1948, and they and their five children were very active in the church and community. He was known for his sense of humor and his love of children. One of his great joys was teaching children in Sunday school. He and Elvera enjoyed traveling to visit friends and relatives as well as missionaries whom they supported around the world. Their generosity and encouragement touched many lives.
Eva Solberg helped care for her dear friend Elvera who went to be with the Lord in 2008. Harvey was also preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Lorraine, sister, Muriel Brewer and brothers, Raymond and Laurin.
Harvey married Eva Solberg in February 2009.
He will be truly missed by his family and friends who are blessed and thankful for his life and his example as a father, husband, friend and neighbor.
