Click for larger imageMALTA- Enevev Benson, age 94, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Highline Nursing Home in Malta of natural causes.

    Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 13, at the Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Malta Cemetery. A luncheon will be at Stretches following the services. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com. Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.

    She was born January 6, 1917 in Grieve, Montana to Eller and Burton McCann and grew up on a farm two miles from the Canadian border north of Whitewater. She attended Nelson and Whitewater schools. On December 28, 1935 she married Lester Benson in Malta , Montana. They spent their early married years farming in North Dakota with Lester’s family. They moved to Montana in March of 1940. In December of 1941 they made a down payment on the 320 acre farm north of Whitewater where they lived and farmed, ultimately expanding it to 2000 acres. Enevev named all their cows! They sold the farm and moved to Malta in 1968. Vev was known for her wonderful meals and huge garden.

    Enevev was preceded in death by her husband Lester who died in 1993. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Pauline Minnerath, Fay Thomson, Shirley Luce, Lucille Soennichsen, and Phyllis Pehlke.

    Nephews and nieces who survive her are Greg Pehlke (wife Marcia) of Glasgow, Mt., Gary Coffman (wife Dee) of Malta, Mt., Don Coffman of Maryland,, Connie Soennichsen White, Leroy Soennichsen, Sandy Luce Weller (husband Rick) , Rodney Luce, and Vicki Pehlke Holman (husband Peter), all of Washington. She is also survived by numerous grand and great nephews and nieces.

I was very sorry to hear of Enevev's passing. She was a very special lady. Will never forget her fantastic meals and big gardens. Worked like a trooper.... I am Lester's niece from ND.
