Ellene Ann Omdahl Halvorson Jensen, 74, retired City
Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Malta, died Monday, January 30,
at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 3, at the Malta Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Malta Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Kirkwood Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkrwoodfuneralhome.com. Ellene was born in Malta, Montana November 12, 1937 to David and Leona (Dyrdahl) Omdahl. She married Percy Halvorson March 11, 1958. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1980. She married Kenneth Jensen on June 13, 1981.
She was an active community member professionally, serving as Treasurer for the City of Malta for 30 years, bookkeeper at Equity Coop (Cenex) and PCA (Production Credit Association) and then City Clerk/Treasurer. She then decided there wasn’t enough to do in retirement so she became a home care giver for several homebound people here in Malta. In many ways this was her most rewarding experience where you could see the results of her care not just the numbers. Lastly she was a SHIP volunteer assisting seniors in Phillips County to search and enroll for the best medical plan as well filing taxes.
She served on many community boards and councils. She was an integral part of the development of Malta Opportunities Inc as a member of Action for Eastern Montana. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, church council, church women, Boy Scout Leadership, BOMB (Boosters of Mustang Band) to name a few.
Ellene is survived by her husband Kenny currently at Hi-Line Retirement Center; daughter, Karen Halvorson (Mat Nyquist) Salem OR.; sons, Mark (Cindy Osland) Sidney Mt., and Ross (Debbie), Billings MT; grandchildren, Kelly (Jessi) Nyquist, Bismarck ND, Megan and Tanner Halvorson, Billings MT and two great grandchildren Carli and Cullen Nyquist Bismarck ND; two brothers Derold (Pat) Omdahl of Belgrade and Gene “Skip” (Barb) Omdahl of Malta; sister, Mary Lou Paulson of Austin, Texas; 12 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin infant sisters, sister, Beverly Omdahl Paulson, and brother, Allan Omdahl, niece Tammy Omdahl Young and Percy.

Growing up in Malta was a special time in my life and included are many fond memories of Ellene and her family. I am so pleased that I got to visit with her last July while in Malta. Denny and I send our condolences.
