Click for larger imageMALTA-Arthur J. Olson, 89, a retired farmer, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.

    There are no services planned at this time. Cremation has taken place at the Hi-Line Crematory in Malta. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com. Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.

    Art was born December 14, 1922 at the family homestead North of Saco. He was the son of Theodore and Karen (Harbitz) Olson. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from the Saco High School. He took over the family farm shortly after high school. He married Bernice R. “Bunny” Svien on September 1, 1958 in Missoula. They made their home in Malta. Art took pride in farming and retired only because of illness in his late sixties. Art and Bunny had three decades of many happy times together before her death in May of 1988.

    Beside his wife, Art was preceded in death by his father in October of 1961, mother in March of 1966, and a brother, Kenneth in August of 1963.

    Art will be greatly missed by his extended family in Malta, step-daughter, Clarine (Pete) Wiese of Malta; grandchildren, Dan, Arthur, John, Rob, JoAnn and their families; sister, Gladys O. Herman of Kent, Washington; nephews, Tom Herman of Malta, Ken (Mary) Olson of Columbia Falls; nieces, Shelley (Glen) Graham of Kalispell, Sharon (Brit) Stratton of Columbia Falls.
