Though gone she will never be forgotten by so many of us who loved her
beyond words due to her kindnesses and love for us. How glad I am to
have been on this earth when she was and how glad I will be to see her
again one day. She was so kind to me throughout my life from a little
boy in her home, in the classroom for art, and anywhere I saw her which
was never often enough. She is blessed by the life she led. May you be
blessed in her passing Barb, Evie, Ginny, and my childhood play buddy
Arlene. Love to you all. Shane Roberts

Ginny, Evie, Arlene, Barb, and all the Families: I am so very
sorry to read this article this morning. Ginny, when I asked you
about your Mom the other day, I had no idea she had bone cancer.
Your Mom was a wonderful lady, and I have many fond memories of being at
your house in Big Sandy as a young girl. Please accept my sincere
sympathy. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary was a quiet example of a strong individual who served as an example
to me and others. Even though I have not seen or talked to her for forty
five years, I still value her as part of my life. She demonstrated great
pride in her girls without being showy about it. We all knew to respect
Mrs. Humes even though she was quiet and unassuming. I am glad she got
to live a long and fruitful life and was able to enjoy her daughters'
successes and her grandchildrens' arrival and growth. Her beautiful
daughters were her life and she did a great job bringing them up and
instilling an appreciation for life and a will to succeed. I am glad to
have known Mary so many years ago. Thank you Mrs. Humes for helping me
to value life and to get to know you and your family. My condolences to
the girls and their families in Mary's passing.
