MALTA-Monte
J. Denham, 77, a Marine veteran of the Korean War, race horse trainer
and tavern owner, died Friday, July 17, at his home of natural causes.
A gathering of friends will be at Noon, Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the
Stockman Bar in
Malta
. Military Honors will take place at the gathering. Cremation will
precede the services. Interment of his ashes will be at a later date in
the
Hillview
Cemetery
in
Hinsdale
,
Montana

Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his two daughters, Barbara Nevrivy of Malta and Bonnie
Denham of Billings; two sons, Bradly Denham of Billings and Morris
“Moe” Denham of Malta; sister, Peggy Mayfield of California;
grandchildren, Baxter, Connor, Cassidy, Mikey, Stacey, Kylee, Kendall,
Kelbee and C.J.; great-grandchildren Sadie and Savana. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Margaret “Margie” on Aug. 30, 2005.
Monte was born June 17, 1932 at
Hinsdale
,
Montana
, the son of Morris Jay and Mildred (Stephens) Denham. He was raised and
educated in the
Hinsdale
area. After high school he enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in
Korea
for a while. He was one of the witnesses to the Atom Bomb test in
Nevada
in the early 1950’s. He married Margaret “Margie” Paladichuk Aug.
28, 1963 in
Wallace
,
Idaho
. They lived in Havre for two years where he bartended and then they
moved to Hinsdale where they operated the M&M Café for a few years
before moving to
Malta
where they have made their home. Monte traveled through out the state
and other places training race horses and was a Paddock Judge for many
years. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, which he played
nearly everyday and poker with his grandchildren.
