Jane Mansfield 68, a retired cook and waitress, died Thursday, September
3, at her home near
Saco
of natural causes.
A celebration of her life will be at a later date. Cremation has
taken place at the Hi-Line Crematory. Condolences for the family may be

Kirkwood Funeral Home of Malta is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Metcalf of Saco; daughters,
Eva Stoval of Anchor Point, Alaska, Tammie Cole of Spokane, Washington,
Teresa Todd of Lewiston, Idaho; step daughters, Jennifer Griffith of
Salmon, Idaho, Rebecca Davis of San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Anna Brown
of Kingman, Arizona, Shirlie Ferguson of Frazer, Minnesota; brother,
Robert Birnel of Big Lake, Alaska; 12 grandchildren, 4 great
grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born April 18, 1941 in
Hamilton
,
Montana
. She was the daughter of Malcom W. and Ellen C. (
Rogers
) Birnel. She was raised and educated in Martin City, Montana and after
her schooling she worked as a waitress and cook in restaurants. She
married Wayne Mansfield in 1963, he died in 1987. She met her soul mate
and best friend Bruce Metcalf in 1991 when they became a couple. They
lived in
Nevada
and moved to the Bitter Root valley in 1997. They moved to
Malta
in 2002 and bought their home near
Saco
this spring. Mary loved doing crafts of all kinds and was especially
good with crocheting and needle work.
