MALTA-Bernard
W. “Bud” Hasler, 83, a WWII Army Veteran and retired City Engineer,
went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, August 07, 2009, at his
home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 10, at the
Malta
Lutheran
Church
. Military Honors will be at the church following the services.
Cremation will follow the services and interment of his ashes will be at
a later date. Condolences for the family may be left at www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Kirkwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Hasler; sons, John and his wife Gloria
Hasler, Wade and his wife Betty Hasler all of Malta; daughters, Paula
and her husband Ed White of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Debra and her husband Joe
Crain of Desert Aire, Wash.; brothers, Tom of Ft. Benton, Floyd of
Lewistown; sisters Ada and Agnes both of Malta; 11 grandchildren and 17
great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Juanita, brother, John,
grandson John, great grandchild, Teresa Mora.
Bud was born February 17, 1926 in Whitetail,
Montana
, the son of John C. and G. Bernice (Wiltfong) Hasler. He was raised and
educated in Whitetail. He moved with
his
family to
Malta
in 1940, where he worked on the family farm and for other ranchers. Bud
enlisted in the Army on May 6, 1944 and served in Rhineland and
Central Europe
. After his discharge on April 22, 1946 he returned to
Malta
. He married Laura Vogt on July 30, 1947 in
Malta
. Bud worked on different ranches and then for the county road
department. After a number of years Bud got on the City Public Works and
worked himself up to City Engineer and retired after 34 years. Bud
enjoyed horses, flying, Judo, telling stories and relaxing at the hot
plunge outside of
Saco
. Bud was an active member of the Malta Wagon Train for many
years.
